decided to drive the 4runner to school today. was a pretty boring drive until the traction control light off , 4x4 off , vsc, and check engine light came on simultaneously, which worried me a lot because i never put it in 4 wheel drive. i’ll update post with pic of the dash (cant right now bc school lol) but hopefully you guys can diagnose

My guess would be a wheel speed sensor went bad.

Toyota’s domino when the check engine light comes on for some codes IIRC. The check engine will turn everything else off/lights on.

My first thought was abs control module, but I know jack about them so don't listen to me.

Don’t freak out too much, that’s a standard code set for basic error. Wheel Sensor, ABS, etc, anything to do with the fro
nt wheels could trip those codes.

Probably a speed/abs sensor. My car has it separate but some are built into the wheel bearing assembly. In some cases the wheel bearing is going bad which trips the sensor.

Some electronic (servo driven) transfer cases will freak out if they aren’t used. The servos encoders will lose their position over time. The fix is to cycle through each of the 4x4 settings. Remember to use your owners manual for how to get into 4 low, don’t just throw the switch.

When the cel is on it shuts off traction and abs.

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor to me. The nanny systems in modern cars tend to freak out when they don’t know how fast the wheels are going.
